How the Friends of Boggs Mountain Got Started
It all began with conversations between various hikers, mountain bikers, horse people and the Forest Manager, Norm Benson, and Forestry Aide, Gail Silliman, concerning the rapid increase in the recreational usage of the forest. It was becoming more and more evident that there was a need to form a volunteer, non-profit organization to work in conjunction with the State Department of Forestry. This organization could assist Boggs Mountain Demonstration State Forest while at the same time assisting the users of the forest in many ways. A public organizational meeting was called in June of 2002 to see if there was enough interest in forming such an organization, and what
purposes it would serve. |
The Friends of Boggs Mountain works closely with the State Forest staff and acts as a liaison between the public and CDF regarding issues of access, volunteerism, recreation, and more. |
